Who I’ve done it for
Former MLB All-Star, Curtis Granderson

Challenge:
Curtis Granderson, launched the Grand Kids Foundation to connect Chicago youth to educational and athletic opportunities and resources, as well as health and wellness initiatives. Over the years, he launched additional non-profits and initiatives—including the Chicago Baseball & Educational Academy & Grand Giving—but they lacked brand continuity.

Solution:
I developed a plan to align all of Granderson’s non-profits under a brand umbrella—the Curtis Granderson Foundation—and worked with a designer to give it a fresh look, while I updated the brand narrative, which was applied across all of his promotional channels. We trademarked his nickname—The Grandyman—and launched a personal website that links back to his foundation site.

We refreshed the branding and messaging for Grand Giving, his annual food insecurity campaign in partnership with Mariano’s, and I coordinated a brand ambassador program to enhance awareness across Chicagoland and increased donations by 20% year over year.

We secured Curtis as the cover subject of July 2024 Fete Lifestyle digital magazine, with a 14-page article about his commitment to Chicago youth through his non-profit orgs.

I’ve worked with some of the biggest brands in the world—from the …For Dummies publisher, where I put together book licensing deals with the NHL, the U.S. Soccer Federation and NASCAR to support the launch of Hockey For Dummies, Soccer For Dummies and NASCAR For Dummies, to my time at PLAYBOY working for Playboy Special Editions and Playboy’s Casting Calls. When that chapter closed, I moved into digital media, where I led the global rebrand and relaunch of the company (twice) and established a creative center of excellence with an internal team that connected, created and activated hundreds of marketing campaigns, immersive brand experiences and employer brand initiatives.

My passion for volunteerism, civic engagement and board service with Chicago-based 501c3 Chicago Cares led me down the path of “using my skills for good” and I’m excited to work with athlete foundations and non-profit organizations to create dynamic brand and marketing plans to help them achieve their goals and make the most impact in their community.
